What is AUSL softball?

The Athletes Unlimited Softball League — AUSL for short — is professional women's fastpitch softball in the United States. If you've heard the name but aren't sure how the league works, this guide covers everything: the format, the teams, the scoring system, and where to watch.

The league in one minute

AUSL is a professional softball league featuring many of the best players in the world — Olympians, national team members, and former college superstars. Games are played in a summer season across multiple ballparks, with teams battling through a schedule and a postseason to crown a champion.

What makes Athletes Unlimited different from a traditional league is its focus on individual performance. Players earn points for their own play as well as team wins, and a season-long leaderboard tracks who's on top.

How the points system works

In Athletes Unlimited softball, players earn individual points on top of team results. Win an inning and everyone on your side earns points. Win the game and there's a bigger bonus. Hits, stolen bases, walks, and quality pitching add individual points too, and the top performers in each game earn MVP points.

The result: every at-bat matters, even in a blowout, because players are climbing an individual leaderboard all season long.

The teams

The league features a small group of professional teams, each with its own colors, identity, and fanbase. Rosters are built from the deepest talent pool in the sport, so every lineup is stacked with recognizable names.
